Fluidra’s British subsidiary plays host to David Cameron to mark its 50 th anniversary
May 20, 2013Acquired by Fluidra in 2003, 50 years of history has made Certikin one of the
market leaders in the pool and spa sector
Certikin, Fluidra's subsidiary in the United Kingdom, celebrated its 50 years in
business with a visit from Britain's prime minister, David Cameron, at the company's
factory in Witney, a town near Oxford.
During his visit, David Cameron showed an interest in the company's innovative
products and highlighted that "Certikin not only brings jobs and a real boost to the
UK’s economy but also makes the country more competitive”.
Founded in 1963, Certikin has built up a reputation as a leading brand in the world of
pools and wellness. The company markets all types of equipment and fittings for
pools, from filters, outdoor materials, pool covers and heaters to a select range of
spas. It also distributes chemical products and water testing kits, control and dosing
systems, and disinfection equipment in Spain under the CTX trademark.
Fluidra acquired Certikin International in the United Kingdom in 2003 as part of its
expansion plan. Since then, it has made further inroads in internationalisation with the
purchase in 2008 of Spei in Italy, which has since become Certikin Italia, and the
merger of Certikin España with CTX, which now goes under the name of Certikin Pool
Ibérica. Certikin is currently one of the Fluidra Group's most widely recognised
trademarks and is sold worldwide.
Created in 1969 by Joan Planes, the current chairman of the board, together with
three partners, Fluidra began its international expansion from the outset. This has
resulted in it running operations in 41 countries through 150 branch offices and
production plants located in the main markets, as well as generating 80% of its
turnover in international markets. The Group's international trajectory has been
acknowledged by the Spanish business association Círculo de Empresarios, which
highlighted the company's success in its sixth edition of its Annual Report on the
Internationalisation of Spanish Businesses that it publishes in collaboration with the
prestigious Wharton School, of the University of Pennsylvania.
