Fluidra provides irrigation technology for Madrid’s most iconic spots
July 4, 2011Fluidra technology will enable City Council technicians to control the
Paseo de Recoletos irrigation network via internet and save up to 30% on
water consumption as well as reduce time and costs
Fluidra systems are also used in most of the green areas in Madrid Río, an
ambitious project that will create a large green belt after the tunnelling of
the M-30 motorway
Fluidra España S.A., a multinational group that develops applications for sustainable
water use and is listed on the Spanish stock exchange, puts its technology to use to
irrigate some of Madrid’s most iconic spots.
Technicians from Section 1 of the Madrid City Council’s Department of Green Area
Conservation have chosen Fluidra technology to water the trees and greenery on
Paseo de Recoletos, the capital’s oldest tree-lined avenue, which runs from Plaza de
Colón to Plaza de Cibeles. The technicians chose the Samcla SCR100 system,
which can remotely manage all automatic irrigation of green areas from a networking
website. Thus, the City Council technicians can turn irrigation on and off in real time,
change schedules and times and carry out any intervention necessary to properly
manage irrigation water.
More than 35 municipalities currently manage their green areas with this system,
which controls the operation of over 4,000 pieces of equipment and 5,000 hectares of
green areas, an area approximately 44 times bigger than Madrid’s Parque del Retiro.
These municipalities are reporting savings of over 30% in both water
consumption and maintenance-related costs.
The system provides an increase in process efficiency and lowers management
costs by avoiding unnecessary trips for conservation staff, thus limiting vehicle use
and fuel consumption. In addition, a hybrid communications system that has
unlimited scope is used to communicate with teams via the network, reducing mobile
phone costs as a result.
Madrid Río
Fluidra has also been chosen to provide the irrigation and fluid handling systems at
various points of Madrid Río, the ambitious urban project which will tunnel the M-30 motorway along the Manzanares River to create a large green belt extending from El Pardo to Getafe. The Group has supplied irrigation materials for the areas
surrounding the Toledo and Segovia bridges as well as Parque de Arganzuela.
Completed last April, Madrid Río covers a total area of 1,210,881 square meters,
where 33,623 new trees from 47 species, 470,844 shrubs from 38 species and
210,898 square meters of meadows have been planted. The irrigation systems
provided by Fluidra include drip pipes for recycled water, which ensure that only the
exact amount of water required is supplied to green areas in order to avoid waste
and promote sustainable use.
