This project began in 2019 and is valued at over 4 million euros.
Fluidra, a global leader in the swimming pool and wellness equipment sector, has bolstered its leading position in the competition pool segment after the International Swimming Federation (FINA) certified that the Arena Aquatic PON XX Papua in Jayapura, the capital of the Indonesian province of Papua, can host international championships. The debut top-tier event is set to be the Indonesian National Sports Week, “Pekan Olah Raga Nasional (PON) 2021”, an event held every four years with athletes from all the country’s provinces.
The project, valued at over 4 million euros, and the subsequent FINA certification once again solidifies Fluidra's reputation as the partner of choice for sports competitions around the world. The group, which has been designing and equipping both competition and training pools for over 45 years, has participated in the design, planning, and execution of multiple facilities for FINA-organized International Swimming Championships, including Barcelona 2003, Shanghai 2006, Melbourne 2007, Mánchester 2008, the 2018 Asian Games, the 2018 Mediterranean Games of Tarragona and the 2019 Pan American Games.
“We started working in Papua in April 2019 as part of the support team for the PT Waskita Karya construction company and the Indonesian Swimming Federation. Despite the restrictions imposed by COVID-19, we are proud that our team was able to complete the project successfully and on time”, explains Xavier Pavon, Fluidra's Managing Director in Asia.
With this new certification, Fluidra's subsidiary in Indonesia now has seven FINA-certified swimming pools, together with Aquatic GBK and Aquatic PPOP Ragunan. The pool designed and built for the 19th Sukma Games in Malaysia also features FINA certification, further enhancing Fluidra’s leadership in the competition pool segment in Asia.
The Arena Aquatic PON XX Papua comprises three pools: an Olympic competition pool measuring 50x25x3 m with a movable bulkhead that adapts to all swimming events; a 25x20x5 m diving pool (both made with SKYPOOL technology); and a concrete, 50x21 m warm-up pool with a variable depth of 1 to 2 m.
