A new Olympic-pool for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (UK)
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that is scheduled to be held in Birmingham, England from 28 July to 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017, marking England's third time hosting the Games behind Manchester 2002 and London 1934. The Birmingham Organising Committee for the 2022 Commonwealth Games (BOCCG) is responsible for the planning and operational delivery of the Games. The new aquatics centre, scheduled to host the swimming and diving events, is being built in Smethwick (Birmingham), and is set to be completed in spring 2022. British firm Wates designed the aquatics centre and is constructing.
Description of Fluidra's scope
Fluidra took care of this turnkey project for the Olympic Pool at the new Sandwell Aquatics Centre, which will include other water facilities. After the games, the aquatics center will be home of one of the most accessible swimming facilities in the region. The state-of-the-art facility will create a lasting legacy for community health and wellbeing with its 50m Olympic-sized swimming pool as well as a 25m diving pool, community swimming pool and seats for up to 1,000 spectators.
