Fluidra is the first Spanish Business to seek the approval of its Binding Corporate Rules
November 26, 2008The Binding Corporate Rules regulate the use and exchange of personal
data at an international level for the whole group. This regulation is one of the
best good governance solutions for businesses with a multinational structure,
especially for listed companies.
Fluidra is a pioneering business in Spain and only two multinational
businesses in the world have officially approved Binding Corporate Rules.
Fluidra, an international group involved in the development of applications for the
sustainable use of water, has applied to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (SDPA)
for the approval of its Binding Corporate Rules, which establish the uniform treatment
and exchange of personal details at an international level across the Fluidra group.
At the same time, the ratification of this policy represents one of the best good
governance solutions for businesses with a multinational structure, especially in the
case of listed companies.
Currently, no Spanish company has Corporate Rules approved by the SDPA, and
Fluidra is the first one to seek such approval. In other countries, only two
multinational businesses in the world have officially approved Binding Corporate
Rules (General Electric and Philips).
The Binding Corporate Rules are the result of an initiative put in place by the
European Union and the Member States’ national data protection agencies. The aims
of this initiative are to simplify and standardise the treatment of data by multinational
companies within the EU, avoiding the repetition of numerous procedures and
applications to the various national data protection authorities, as well as to reduce
the risk of penalties in this sphere.
For the development of these Binding Corporate Rules and their approval by the
SDPA, Fluidra will benefit from the advice of Landwell-PwC, the legal and financial
consultancy of PricewaterhouseCoopers, through the Technological Risk team lead
by Javier Ribas, under the coordination of Carlos Pérez Sanz.
