Fluidra installs a movable bulkhead in the swimming pool used for the Taiwan Deaf Olympics
September 29, 2009The functionality of the swimming pool used for the Deaf Olympics held in
Taipei (Taiwan) from 5 th to 15 th September was increased by a moveable
bulkhead installed by AstralPool, a subsidiary of Fluidra.
The moveable bulkhead and floor technology developed exclusively by the
Spanish multinational can multiply the possibilities provided by a swimming
pool, dividing it into several areas and making it possible to combine different
measurements, depths and uses.
Fluidra, the multinational group which develops applications for sustainable water
use, has been present with its most innovative swimming pool technology at the
Taiwan Deaf Olympics held in Taipei from 5 th to 15 th September. Its subsidiary
AstralPool installed a 25m x 1.5m x 2m movable wall at the 50m x 25m x 3m
swimming pool at which the water competitions were held, thus multiplying the
functionality of the installation.
Thanks to the moving wall and floor technology developed by the company, a single
pool can be divided into several areas of different sizes, depths and uses. This
increases the profitability of the available space, since it avoids the construction costs
entailed in building several separate water installations.
Adding a moveable bulkhead to a swimming pool makes it possible to use it for
swimming and water polo competitions as well as for learning, relaxation or aqua-
gym, for example. In addition, the moveable bulkhead has the design and anchorage
required to include all the elements involved in a competition, such as a podium, float
lines, turning panels, etc. It can even be fitted with safety rails to enable the public to
go from one side to the other. The AstralPool system can be adapted and used in
new or existing pools.
Around 4,000 athletes from 81 countries worldwide have taken part in the 2009 Deaf
Olympics. The Spanish delegation was comprised of 35 sportspeople competing in
five of the twenty sports categories, including Athletics, Swimming, Women’s Tennis,
Basketball and Football.
