Fluidra acquires Spain's leading fountain manufacturer in order to expand in the commercial pool sector

Following the acquisition of Somhidros’ ornamental fountain business, Fluidra has strengthened its leadership in the commercial pool sector and has taken its 2018 Strategic Plan one step further.
Fluidra, the listed Spanish multinational group devoted to applications for the sustainable use of water, has acquired the ornamental fountain branch of business of Somhidros, Spain’s leader in the sector. The operation, worth approximately 1 million euros, forms part of Fluidra’s strategy to expand in the commercial pool sector, within the framework of its 2018 Strategic Plan, and will put the firm’s stock, machinery and knowhowinto Fluidra’s hands.
In the opinion of Eloi Planes, Fluidra’s Executive President: “Following this acquisition, we have taken our 2018 Strategic Plan one step further, one of whose targets is to strengthen our international leadership in the commercial pool sector. Somhidros will be a key driver in enabling us to gain a foothold in the ornamental fountain segment, thanks to the unique technology acquired, the big qualitative leap forward made in terms of innovation and the added value we will be able to deliver to our customers”.
Founded in 1997, Somhidros is a company based in Mataró (Barcelona) that has longstanding experience in the design, technological development and installation of ornamental fountains, water features and artificial lakes, amongst others. With a clear focus on sustainable innovation, the company’s projects deliver on low power consumption, as well as completely recycling the water used in them.
Amongst Somhidros’ latest creations, it is worth highlighting the full makeover of Barcelona’s Montjuïc fountains, the installations at the Puerto Venecia shopping resort (Zaragoza), in addition to numerous international projects in cities such as Moscow, Jakarta, Sochi and Baku; in the latter city, the company installed the world’s third tallest geyser-like fountain, which shoots the water up to 140 metres.
Fluidra has extensive experience in the world of fountains, and has worked alongside Somhidros as a strategic partner on many of its projects, such as a number of shopping malls in Russia.
The acquisition of Somhidros’ ornamental fountain business is an operation that falls within the framework of Fluidra’s recently released 2018 Strategic Plan. In line with this plan, Fluidra anticipates a turnover of 750 million euros as a result of this ambitious growth in both sales and returns by focusing on the pool and wellness sectors.
