The Cibeles fountain shines again in all its glory with a totally environmentally friendly build
Fluidra, through its lighting brand Ignialight, aimed to reform and modernize the iconic Cibeles fountain in Madrid (Spain), making it more sustainable in line with the times and giving it a touch of luminosity, without any type of architectural work or movement. Cibeles Fountain has been standing in this emblematic square since 1782. One of the city’s most famous landmarks, it depicts Cybele, the Great Mother of the gods and Roman goddess of fertility, atop a chariot drawn by two lions. It stands in the centre of the Plaza de Cibeles, the square to which it has lent its name and which marks the start of Madrid’s avenue of art, the Paseo del Arte.
    Description of Fluidra's scope
Together with the construction company IMESAPI, the traditional white halogen spotlights were replaced by RGB LED projectors with a DMX control system. The Ignialight DMX system installed in the fountain makes it possible to control each of the luminaires in the fountain separately. The installation of the Halospot spotlights made it possible to play around with the position, distribution and angles of the light beams, thus achieving a symmetrical illumination of the fountain, as well as to light up the face of the Goddess Cibeles, as a result of which the halogen bulbs remained more in the dark. The new spotlights fitted made it possible to choose a wide range of colors and several sequences to illuminate the fountain. Changing the luminaires to LED technology made a remarkable improvement to the lighting of the fountain, as well as giving the possibility of choosing a large number of lighting effects. Significant energy, maintenance and water savings were achieved, as before the vessel had to be emptied every time the color of the fountain lighting was changed. LED technology delivers high performance as well as greater uniformity and improvement in the quality of light. With lower consumption and a longer service life, this is more environmentally competitive.
